Write Off Liverpool At Your Own Peril

To be fair, I think the criticism of Liverpool's spending is extremely unfair. Let's take away the Suarez factor because he was always going to leave and you were never going to replace him with a like for like or someone of a similar caliber.
Expecting Liverpool to do that is crazy. They did try to get Sanchez which was the right thing to do. If you look at their business so far, Lambert was going to join regardless as he gives Rodgers a different option up front, something they didn't have.
I've always rated Lallana and I think he's a fabulous footballer. Yes he's expensive but that's English players for you... they're all grossly overpriced. Emre Can is solid and has the potential to be a top player, saw him first hand against United last season and he was Leverkusen's best player by far.
Getting Lovren was important too. His last season's performances is an upgrade to what they already have. Origi was a real find at the World Cup so buying him is a sound investment for the future if he continues raising his standard. Then you look at Albert Moreno. One of the top rated Left backs in La Liga. You can't go wrong there really.
The only reservation I would have is Markovic. I feel Liverpool should have gone for someone like Shaqiri instead of him but I don't know much about the guy. Everyone takes a financial risk on young talent every now and then, especially Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.
Plus, you can't really judge a team's business until its out there on the field. If they're trash, it was obviously bad business but on the other hand, they might thrive.
This coming season could be a big test for not only Brendan Rodgers but also for players like Sturridge and Lallana, and hopefully they can prove that they can cut the mustard at the very top and become the top players English football is crying out for.
