Arsenal have picked up where they left off last season by winning the FA Community Shield against Manchester City and it promises to get even better for them going into the new season.
Before now, Arsenal fans have been used to the sight of rumors linking them with everything that plays football on planet earth with nothing coming out of it and maybe needing last minute signings to just patch things up a bit. But all that now seem in the past for them as they have proved this summer.
With the financial power Arsenal now possess, they were able to move swiftly and compete with Liverpool for the signing of World cup star man, Alexis Sanchez, with Wenger's side eventually winning the race to sign the Chilean, something that would not have happened in previous campaigns.
Another major concern that has always been for the Arsenal fans in the past is Wenger's inability to replace departing players with quality signings. After the news of Bacary Sagna departure became official, I am sure that some Arsenal fans must have been concerned that Wenger could go get an under quality replacement but again he defied them and got Mathieu Debuchy from the Toons. A player who could be seen as an upgrade on Sagna or at least as good as he was.
But the most pressing of concerns there as been concerning the London club over the past 4 years now is their continuous willingness to allow their players to join rival clubs. Wenger has not let that happen this summer except for Sagna's departure to join Manchester City. But there was really little he could have done about that cos he was a free agent and I was most impressed by the way the Vermaelen's transfer was handled. First holding off interest from Manchester United to strike a deal with Barcelona, this wouldn't have happened before.
With all this signs, you can say Arsene Wenger is finally learning from his mistakes of previous years and finally ready to compete for trophies on all front. With Wenger keeping the core of the team intact, letting off dead woods and strengthening the squad, this might just be Wenger's year.
