Did Roy Get His Selections Right??

By Adedayo Ayodele

England Manager, Roy Hodgson

Think Roy's pretty much spot on with this one. Can't understand any of the criticism for both Milner and Henderson. Milner had a decent season and always gives his all in an England shirt, and Henderson had a great season at Liverpool.

If England are gonna play with the attacking players at their disposal and Gerrard holding then the extra energy of these two in midfield will be absolutely vital. On form alone i'd say Barry would edge it over lamps (with Carrick nowhere near) however Barry hasn't been in a single squad under Hodgson whereas lamps has been in every one and is the go to vice captain so you can see his reasons for including him.

Hard one with Smalling and Jones as both have been poor for united this season but their versatility of RB/CB has allowed the coach to go with more options up top which was needed to fit Barkley et al in. Though I still feel Jones is enough in terms of versatility.

Smalling is a "dead" player at the moment.. Can see why people would call for Stones/Flanagan/Shawcross as they've both had good season but neither played at this level which is a risk especially for a defender(but if I was to risk taking one of them, it'd be Shawcross....I mean, he's had a far better season than that dullard Smalling).

I'd have love to see Lambert get dropped for Andy Caroll too. Lambert definitely a better player and deserves it more, but sentiment aside i think as a 4th striker the likelihood of making anything more than a cameo role is slim and i know who i'd rather throw on to cause problems with 10mins to go.

A formation like this against the Italians should be able to hold them down in my opinion
