Keshi: The Abuja National Stadium football pitch is terrible
The Abuja National Stadium |
These are the words of the coach of the Nigerian National Team Stephen Okechukwudu Keshi. But before that comment, I was made to understand that over 100 million naira was spent just to regrass that pitch alone and one begin to wonder that after spending that much to regrass the Abuja National Stadium pitch, people can still come out to complain the pitch is not good for football at all especially when it rains.
Even in advanced countries, you don't spend that much to regrass a stadium but with corruption at its peak over 600,000 US dollars was spent on a stadium in Nigeria and yet nothing to prove that that was exactly how much was spent to regrass the Abuja National Stadium.
Keshi boys are preparing for the worse ahead and decided to train on the stadium for the 1st time in many months but to his surprise he said "The pitch is not good and nothing was ever done there to improve it" and some persons were awarded the contract to endeavour that the job was done.
Its so sad that things like this happen in this country where we have the sport minister and nobody will come out to find out what exactly is happening and try to look into this matter. I just hope the second leg of Nigeria encounter with Ethiopia is not shifted to Abuja National Stadium.
