A Thing Of Concern

In recent weeks, the debate about nationality change among players has grown. First, it was Diego Costa, a Brazilian with 2 caps already for his country (not competitive caps) who agreed to play for Spain after reaching the 5 years residency rule by FIFA in Spain and just recently Manchester United boy Adnan Januzaj who had a match winning performance for his club last weekend being pursued by England and other countries.

In some cases the players can't really be blamed for their decision. For example, in Diego Costa's case, he must have felt disappointed after being overlooked for the vacant striker spot available for Brazil after Leandro Damiao pulled out due to injury and he must feel like he is not getting any younger and we are in a world cup year. Players want to play in as much world cup tournament as they can. He can keep out the likes of Llorente, Torres, David Villa if he keeps going with this kind of form.

This trend seems to be common with Brazilians because of the abundant talent they have at their disposal with the likes of Pepe playing for Portugal, Thiago Motta for Italy and so on.

But this shouldn't be encouraged by FIFA so we don't have the same case as that of clubs where players can be bought from anywhere because if we keep going this way, we could see a player like Willian in the Green & White of Nigeria.
