Barclays Premier League Round 8 Review
Arsenal maintained their strong grip to the top of the table with a win against Norwich at the Emirates extending their unbeaten run to 12 games since their opening day defeat to Aston Villa at the same ground. Wilshere scored a ‘wonder’ team goal with summer signing Mesut Ozil scoring either side of a composed Ramsey finish making it his 9th goal of the season in all competition(his best tally in a season already). Arsenal winning the match 4-1.
Earlier in the day, Liverpool could not take advantage of an extra man against Newcastle to take all 3 points after defender Yange Mbiwa pulled down Suarez in the penalty area for Steven Gerard to score his 100th League goal after Cabaye had put the host in control with a 30 yard strike. Substitute, Dummett regain the lead for the host only for Sturridge to equalise for the Reds taking his tally to 7 goals in the League.
Manchester United continued their unimpressive start to the season with a draw against Southampton making it only a home league win in 4 games. Robin Van Persie put the host ahead with a first half strike, only for Adam Lallana to cancel the goal in the 89th minute putting more pressure on manager, David Moyes which leaves them 8th on the table.
Mourinho continued with his impressive home league record with Chelsea that stretches back to his first spell with the club but it had to be done with a fight back after Chelsea went down to a Mutch 10th minute goal. Eden Hazard put the host levelled after Samuel Eto’o had controversially tackled the keper for the goal. Goals from Eto’o(first Chelsea striker to score in the league this season), Oscar and Hazard completed the rout in the second half.
Manchester city went 4th on the table with a win away 1-3 at West Ham. Sergio Aguero scoring a brace and Silva also on the score sheet for the Pellegrini side who registered their first away win of the season. Tottenham bounced back from their last defeat against West Ham when they beat Aston Villa at Villa Park 0-2 with Townsend continueing with his impressive week when he put the visitors ahead at the half hour mark. Roberto Soldado completing the scoring with his first goal from open play for Spurs this season.
Other results see Swansea demolish Sunderland 4-0 to register their first home win of the season. Goals from Guzman and Bony and two own goals from S. Fletcher and Bardsley saw the host to a comfortable win. Stoke 0-0 West Brom,Everton defeated Hull city 2-1. Finally, Fulham defeated Crystal Palace 4-1 thanks to two goal of the season contenders from Kasami and Sidwell before Berbatov and Senderos put the visitors in total control after Mariappa had given the host an early lead. the win sees Fulham rise to 14th on the table with only their 3rd win of the season.
