Welbeck - Great Athlete But A Poor Footballer

Danny Welbeck

Yup. That is how I would sum him up. Strong, pacy, hustler but a poor footballer. In 2012/13 he managed to score ONE goal in 27 appearances in the league. Yes, he wasn't always used as a striker, but that is nothing short of shockingly poor.

Watching him play every game, most people with a clear mind would easily understand why he didn't score more. He did better last season with 9 in 25 games, but he has yet to impress. With Danny Welbeck, I always have felt it is all about hope and faith.

Some claim he has been getting some stick, but I can't disagree more - I know of no players more deserving of more stick. If he wasn't English and a United product, he would have been talked about similarly as Liam Miller, Djemba-Djemba and Kleberson.

Most of all, I see him as England's new "Heskey". The lad is a great athlete: quick, strong, works hard - but he heavily lacks footballing skills. He looks like he is drunk when he enters the penalty box, does simple clumsy mistakes, can't dribble etc. But in all the years he has ONE good game against Real Madrid as a defensive striker (a game were he also missed a sitter) - and is hailed as a star! For me, that is unique. You NEVER know, he could turn out great for Arsenal (he has always had potential).

But comparing him to a Sturridge that never got the chance at Chelsea and City, he has had more than enough chances. Often, this is the problem with Manchester United...always given too many chances to 'some' players. Welbeck, Young, Cleverley for example. And don't get me started on Cleverley turning down Everton and Villa due to wages...

In my eyes, he's a championship player. But people seem blind to some English United products.
