Serie A Round 8 Review
Roma continued their perfect start to the season on Friday
against Napoli. With top spot at stake, Roma put Napoli to the sword by ending
their unbeaten start to the league. With Miralem Pjanic scoring both goals,
first from a brilliant free kick shortly after half time before scoring from
the penalty spot which extends their unbeaten start to the season to 8 games.
The only sour taste to the win for Roma being that Francesc Totti and Gervinho
went out injured.
Juventus could not capitalize on Napoli’s slip up and go
second by reducing the point between them and Roma to 2 points when they were
defeated by a Fiorentina comeback with Giuseppe Rossi scoring a hat trick as
Fiorentina came back from a 2-0 half time deficit to win 4-2 condemning them to
their first defeat G.Rossi heads the goal chart this week with 8 goals.
AC Milan defeated Udinese with a Valter Birsa’s first half
strike enough to go 8th on the table. This match saw Kaka make his
first home appearance for the Milanese club after signing this summer.
Genoa defeated Chievo Verona 2-1 with a brace from Alberto
Gilardino either side of Simeone Bentivoglio’s goal. H. Verona saw off a fight
back from Parma to win 3-2 with Jorginho scoring 2 penalties in the lasr
30mins. Sassuolo earned their first win of the season with a 2-1 scoreline
against Bologna who are yet to win this season also. The result sees Bologna
drop to the base of the league table with Sassuolo leap frogging to 18th.
Internazionale had to play 85mins of their game against Torino
with 10 men after goal keeper Handanovic was shown a straight red card with his
replacement, Juan Pablo Carrizo saving the resulting penalty kick from Alessio
Cerci. Inter still showed a brave display with only a 90th minute
Nicola Bellomo denying the new owners their first win after a Ridrigo Palacio
brace had put them ahead. The match ending 3-3.
Other results see Livorno defeated at home 1-2 by Sampdoria
after Nicolo Pozzi struck a 96th minute penalty to get a win for the
visitors. Atlanta 2-1 Lazio and Cagliar defeated Catana 2-1.
