FA Community Shield Preview

By Azeez Said

This season's curtain raiser - the FA Community Shield is going to be contested by the Red side of North London - Arsenal and the blue side of Manchester - Manchester City (as if you don't already know).

Arsenal would be hoping to continue with their title winning streak after breaking their 9 year jinx when they won the FA Cup by winning the Community shield which will surely boost their confidence going into the new season.

This competition is widely seen as "bigger friendly" and as former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson highlighted prior to the 2008 FA Community shield: "It's always a game we never quite use as a do or die thing; we use it as a barometer for fitness".

The two teams are expected to play with a not full strength team with City already announcing they would be without 7 players and Arsenal's German World Cup winning players all to miss out of the action.

Though the likes of Yaya Toure, Silva, Ramsey and Arsenal's new boy, Alexis Sanchez is expected to play a part in the game, but it might be left to the younger lads to stake a claim to be a part of their manager's plan for the new season cos the more experienced players are still showing tired legs after the World Cup.

Only time will tell if Alexis would win his first trophy as an Arsenal player or Sagna would get his second winners medal in England. The clock is ticking.
