Microsoft and Coca Cola Haggle for the Bernabeu Naming Rights
Santiago Bernabeu |
According to the hard tackle, Los
Blancos’ ambitious president Florentino Perez is planning to revamp their
iconic Estadio Santiago Bernabeu stadium as soon as the end of this season – in
order to generate more avenues of sustained sources of income, and they’re
aiming to secure a massive deal for the naming rights as the first step towards
their target.
The end of 2013 saw software giant – Microsoft – in talks with Los
Blancos to acquire naming rights to the 85, 454-seater stadium.
Apparently, Microsoft offered €50m-a-year for the asset. However, Coca
Cola are willing to offer €80m-a-year to Florentino Perez to get the
sponsorship deal.
The hard tackle stated that Barcelona,
more than any other club, in the last few years announced a deal with Qatar
Airways that now sees the company’s logo, along with Barca players, stretched
across the Camp Nou. The Catalan club has also sealed a deal with Intel that
will see their logo adorned on the inside of their shirts.
The Bernabéu, although inaugurated on 14 December 1947 and owned by
Real Madrid Club de Futbol, is both the second-largest stadium in Spain and the
second-largest stadium home to a top-flight European club, behind
only Camp Nou, home to rival Barcelona.
