Anelka in Big Trouble !!!
By Adedayo Ayodele
You guys still remember the Anelka incident right? The "quenelle" gesture he performed after scoring against west ham last month? Yup. Apparently, the gesture has anti-Semitic connotations in France. The gesture drew widespread condemnation from anti-racism campaigners in the UK and France. Though Anelka said the gesture is anti-establishment, not anti-Semitic which is made widely known in france by his controversial comedian friend Dieudonne.
But that's where the problem is. Dieudonne has six convictions for hate speech against Jews.
And now, Zoopla, which is owned by Jewish businessman Alex Chesterman(who has a sponsorship deal with westbrom), is believed to have been unhappy that the Baggies continued to pick Anelka despite the incident.
Their sponsorship deal with the Baggies was the biggest in their history, although it was due to expire this summer, and the company has now confirmed it will not renew the deal.
If Zoopla seriously think anyone will believe their company is associated with racism because of Anelka's childish gesture, then more the fool them because they're the ones who will lose out on invaluable TV exposure....but then again, this is a clever move by Zoopla, there deal was ending in June anyway so they aren't actually quitting anything, however the amount of publicity they are getting by saying they are is as much as they got from being west brom's sponsor.
