Things Super Eagles Must Do To Win The World Cup
By Azeez Said
Nigeria qualified for the World cup in Brazil after defeating Ethiopia 2-0 in Calabar, winning the two legged tie 4-1 on aggregate thereby being the first African country to qualify for the World cup in Brazil next summer. This is also the first time an African champion will qualify for the World cup since Cameroon did that in 2002.
The Super eagles were left almost shooting themselves in the leg after they lost chances after chances. It is a pity we find it sometimes hard stamping our authority on lesser teams, we are African champions for crying out loud. Their profligacy in front of goal must be a cause for concern to the boss going into the tournament next year and this had been their achilles heel in the Confederations cup and also in some qualifying matches and it has to be properly addressed.
The likes of Ahmed Musa and Brown Ideye, as much as i hate to say it, are major culprits in this category and must step up their game or risk been dropped out of the World cup squad with players like Dike and Ameobi ready to step in.
Now that the ticket to Brazil has been secured, preparations for the World cup have to start earnestly. We have to arrange TOP quality friendly games like that of the Italians and invite new faces to the team to bring about competition for places and not to forget, outstanding debts to the coaching staffs and players must be paid to serve as a motivation.
The Super eagles did not disappoint in the match against the Italians, going against all odds to draw the match 2-2. The result looks more impressive if you take into consideration the number of inexperienced players that were on show for the African country and the kind of response they gave after going one goal down is just world class. More of this experimenting must be done on the way to naming the squad for the tournament next summer.
If we put all this in place, who knows, we could defy all odds and bring the trophy to Africa for the first time.

We just need to work on our defense, it should be a lot more coordinated. We also need strikers like Haruna, for example, to be invited. This is a world cup and not a Nation cup where we can just use what we have.
ReplyDeleteHaruna? The midfielder that played for the super eagles in the 2006 world cup is the one you're calling a striker? Something wrong with you.
ReplyDeleteWe need osaze odemwingie he'll bring enough to the team..keshi should jes settle whatever problem dey have..we have to go to brazil with our best legs..and musa is jes a joke
