What Are Arsenal Chances In The UCL 2013/2014?
After the UEFA Champions League draw was concluded yesterday in Monaco, attention shifts to the North London club in a week where there has been some clamoring from football fans around the world for Arsenal not to be seeded in this year's draw.
It is no more a secret that Arsenal have not won a trophy since the FA Cup in 2005 and football fans believe that such a side should not be ranked among the best teams.
The rankings are as follows;
- Barcelona
- Bayern Munich
- Chelsea
- Real Madrid
- Manchester United
- Arsenal
- Inter Milan
- Fc Porto etc
61 trophies have been won among the top 8 European clubs with Arsenal contibuting absolutely nothing and 58 trophies won among the 8 seeded teams (Benfica replacing Inter Milan in this year's UCL) and Arsenal also not contributing to it.
The draw has been done and Arsenal find themselves drawn with Marseille who came runners-up to PSG in the Ligue 1 in the past season; Borussia Dortmund who were runners up in both the Bundesliga and UCL to a fantastic Bayern Munich team and Napoli who were runners up in the Serie A.
These 3 clubs have all strengthened across their teams with Dortmund bringing in the likes of the pacey Aubameyang, the creative Mkhitaryan among others, Napoli bringing in the experience Pepe Reina, the prolific Higuain, Callejen and co under the tutelage of Benitez and Marseille equally strenghtening their team. But Arsenal have sold, released or loaned out 28 players with a merely 2 coming in (An untested injury prone Yaya Sanogo and resigning Flamini both on a Bosman transfer)
With all other teams strengthening across their teams, do you think Arsene Wenger -The Prof. - can pull a cat out of the hat this time and qualify Arsenal to the last 16 for the 15th consecutive season in a row?
