After Atletico Madrid sold Radamel Falcao to Monaco, they had signings of Leo Baptista and David Villa. 

For their defence, they went all out to acquire Martin Demichelis. The 32 year old centre-back is on a free transfer with a one-year deal. After the former Malaga defender refused to extend his contract with Los Boquerones, he decisively joined last season's La Liga third-placed side...

The Argentine defender admitted that Diego Simeone, current manager of Atletico Madrid came to him and succeeded in convincing him to join the club. 

He also said, "Simeone has known about me for a long time and is aware of my performances in the last few years. he is one of the main reasons I'm nnow an Atletico player".

Furthermore, Demichelis said that it was a difficult decision to join Los Rojiblancos and rebuff both River Plate and Malaga who had wanted to sign him.

Th centre-back has made 40 appearances with Malaga as the club reached the quarter finals of the Champions League.
