The FIFA World 11 Is Not Justifiable

By Azeez Said
FIFA XI PRO

I was talking to one of my colleague yesterday after the conclusion of the ballon d'or award and he was surprised as I was happy that Ronaldo won it especially after reading my previous post on how disappointed I was after Mikel lost out on the CAF award. My support went to Ribery to win it but i was only happy that the award was not going to be monopolized by 'you know who' who has won it four times consecutively.

A part of the gala award that has been close to being monopolized is the FIFA XI pro which has been widely dominated by Spanish players, precisely Barcelona players and it has not been justifiably so. Here I would give you my own picked World 11 using 4-1-2-3 formation.

DEFENCE

Between the sticks is Manuel Neur who has a growing reputation to be one of the best goalkeepers to have graced the game. Left back is undeniably David Alaba (maybe that is to me) but I don't know how the supposed voters didn't vote him in after he had a great 2013. At right back is German and Bayern Munich captain Phillip Lahm who I call the complete defender. He can play anywhere across the defence and even in midfield as he has proved this season. Thiago Silva who had a good 2013 for club and country winning the Ligue 1 title at PSG and confederations cup for Brazil. I don't see a World 11 without at least an England based defender as Vincent Kompany completes my back 4 after a solid year.

MIDFIELD

Midfield I say is the most important part of a team as it links defence to attack. Once your midfield is broken, you are goals away from been defeated. German midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger is my anchor man as he did the job perfectly for Bayern Munich in a record breaking year for the club. Barcelona 'twisting tiger' Andres Iniesta and Franck Ribery complete my midfield. This is a midfield full of steel, creativity and trickery which can't be fully found in the FIFA chosen 11.

ATTACKERS
CR 7 (2013 Ballon D'or Winner)

Lionel Messi starts on the right side of the attack in a 3 pronged attack with Swedish talisman and Puskas award Winner, Ibrahimovic as the main striker. Ballon d'or winner Cristiano Ronaldo completes my attack.

FULL SQUAD

Manuel Neur
David Alaba
Phillip Lahm
Thiago Silva
Vincent Kompany
Bastian Schweinsteiger
Andres Iniesta
Frank Ribery
Lionel Messi
Cristiano Ronaldo
Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Though there have been other players who lit up 2013 with their brilliance but i see this 11 as the best over the previous year.

I want to use this medium to wish my colleague, my friend, the pioneer of this blog a happy birthday and many more years to come.

  1. well you have a good point. the only part i'd have to disagree with is the part u said kompany had a better season than ramos. last season has to be kompany's worst season at the ethihad. he had too many injuries and all u knw. but i agree with the rest. the alaba part especially. i mean...... the poor guy was robbed.
